Built in 1919 by renowned French architect Marius Boyer, this hotel sat derelict through the 1990s until it reopened in 2005, offering modern albeit small rooms for a very reasonable price. The owners kept the original floors in the rooms, but have refurbished the bathrooms with blue and white tiling and new bath/shower combos. Most rooms face onto the street — usually quiet at nighttime — but there are some rooms at the rear that are even quieter.
Thick red carpets line the hallways and help to warm up the hotel during the colder months. The reception area received a full makeover and is now resplendent in rough sandstone and Roman statuettes (in keeping with the hotel’s namesake near Meknes). A small restaurant opening onto the street serves light meals and a pastry and tea/coffee breakfast. The Volubilis is only a short walk from the restaurant strip along rue Allal ben Abdellah, and there’s usually parking right outside.
